Year in Review: 2020

2020. It’s sure been one for the books, hasn’t it? But even with all of the bad, I hope you were able to find some good. I’ve enjoyed working from home and seeing my husband a lot more than I would have otherwise. I also enjoy skipping my commute to work and rush hour traffic. In many ways 2020 has forced us to slow down, and there is something positive in that.

2020 is also the year I started this blog! It’s something that I’ve dreamed about since I was in high school and first discovered that there were people who had a place where they talked about clothes! I knew that I had to do that one day. So here we are! I’ve talked about wardrobe basics (and I have plans to discuss many more related topics in 2021!) the most versatile pants in my closet, what to wear to a fall wedding, and more! I’ve been working on planning for 2021 and I’m excited about all of the content that I have planned. If you ever have a request for something you would like me to cover here, feel free to comment on this blog post, comment on any of my Instagram photos, or send me a message on Instagram.

My Favorite Blog Posts of 2020:

#1: My first ever blog post. I was both nervous and excited to hit “publish” on this one and tell the world that I was going to start blogging. I truly appreciate all of the kind words and messages that I have received, they mean so much to me! As does your support! You can read that post here.

#2: My post on the white button down and 3 ways to wear it! This post was a lot of fun to shoot and write. I love a piece that can be worn several ways because it makes the purchase worth it. Don’t we all want to buy things that will go the extra mile in our wardrobes? Read the post here.

#3: My post on the classic winter outfit. Some outfits just evoke classic style and for me, this outfit was just that. I’ve always loved a good blazer with a great pair of jeans. You honestly can’t go wrong. You can read that post here.

#4: My post on my favorite fall skirt. I didn’t think I liked maxi skirts, but this one was too pretty to pass up. Read the post here.

In 2020, I…..

  1. Finished 22 books – pretty sure this is a record for me, though I never used to keep track of the books I read in a year. 2020 is the year that I remembered how much I love to read. I realized I love mysteries and thrillers since they’re the kind of books you can’t put down because you have to know how they end! My goal was to read more books than Jason (his goal was 30, and you better believe he achieved it), but unfortunately November and December were really busy months for me so I got off track. Next year he’s reading 52 books and I’m just not going to try to compete with that! I’m covering some of my favorites from the year below.
  2. Started this blog (see above)!
  3. I began decorating our apartment. Our walls were pretty blank for a long time until I finally ordered our wedding photos for printing and created a gallery wall (thanks Dad and Jason!). I have plenty more items on my agenda that I would like put in this apartment (new couch, anyone?) but the process of decorating is a slow one for sure.
  4. I started learning French! Jason took French in high school and started using this free app called Duolingo to brush up on his skills. It is my dream to one day go to Paris, so I decided I would start learning it. It’s a lot of fun, and I have someone to practice with!

My Top 4 Favorite Books I Read This Year:

  1. Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens – Such a beautiful coming of age story and unlike anything I’ve ever read. I absolutely loved this book!
  2. Verity by Colleen Hoover – This book kept me on my toes and featured an amazing twist. A must read if you enjoy mysteries/thrillers.
  3. The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine – Another great mystery/thriller with some great twists and turns. I think I read this book in like two days because I couldn’t put it down!
  4. One Day in December by Josie Silver – Such a good love at first sight book that spans nearly a decade. It was a great book to read around Christmas! I read more than half of the book in a day because I couldn’t put it down!

You may notice that 3 of the 4 books have made been featured in Reese’s Book Club. I discovered Reese Witherspoon’s book club this year and have really enjoyed following along with her picks every month! I’m also trying to play catch-up for the years I wasn’t following along. I don’t read every book she recommends, but reading her suggestions have allowed me to read books I never would have picked up on my own, which I love!

With that, I’m going to wrap it up. 2020 wasn’t what we all had thought it would be, but I hope that you were able to see some good come out of it. Thank you for following along!

Here’s to 2021!

šŸ‚IT’S OFFICIALLY FALLšŸ‚ Throwback to last šŸ‚IT’S OFFICIALLY FALLšŸ‚

Throwback to last year’s fall colors. I can’t wait to see them again this year! The morning temps are finally in the 40s and it’s giving me LIFE. Highly recommend a nice morning walk to get your day started.

Lower temps means that we finally get to bring out the fall fashion!! I’ve been stuck in such a fashion rut because quite frankly, summer fashion is blah. I said what I said. šŸ˜‰
✨WHAT MY HUSBAND AND I WORE TO A SUMMER WEDDING✨

Was the outfit matching intentional? Not really haha. I found this light blue dress and knew I would wear it to the wedding and then when it came time to figure out what Jason would wear, I thought his only linen suit (which happens to be light blue) would be perfect. So, we ended up matching.

The dress code for this wedding was semi-formal so we were more dressed up, but if I’m being honest I typically dress up more for weddings anyway. I think it’s more respectful to the bride and groom to err on the side of more dressy vs less dressy.

OUTFIT DETAILS:

On Kate:
• Dress is from @anntaylor
• Shoes (old) and clutch (sold out) are from Ann Taylor

On Jason:
• Suit, tie, and pocket square (all old) are from @bananarepublic
• Shirt is from @combatgent
• Shoes are too old to mention

Recap of Day 5 in Charleston: Our 5th Anniversary Recap of Day 5 in Charleston: Our 5th Anniversary ā¤ļø

The Notebook is one of my favorite movies of all time. Little did I know (though maybe it should’ve been obvious) that the movie was filmed in Charleston, South Carolina.

Fortunately for me, Jason knew. 🄺

He planned our whole day around different filming locations of The Notebook, which is what you’ll see in the photos. When I say that my husband is the most thoughtful man I’ve ever met, I mean it, and this is a perfect demonstration of that.

• Photo 1: The Avenue of Oaks at Boone Hall Plantation
• Photo 2: The main house at Boone Hall, which also served as the exterior of Allie’s home.
• Photo 3: The nature tour of the plantation.
• Photo 4: Cypress Gardens, which is where the lake scene was filmed.
• Video 5: Jason wore a white shirt because Noah wore a white shirt for this scene in the movie. 🄺 The bridge from the movie is behind him!
• Photo 6: Jeni’s Ice Cream, also from the movie!
• Photo 7: The American Theater, filming location for Noah and Allie’s first date!
• Photo 8: College of Charleston, which served as the exterior for Allie’s college.
• Photo 9: We had dinner at Husk (not Notebook related but the exterior reminds me of the movie!). It was delicious and a must-try if you’re ever in Charleston.
• Photo 10: The exterior of our wedding venue. When I saw it, it immediately reminded me of The Notebook and I knew we had to get married there! So as you can see, I really love this movie ā¤ļø

It’s also worth noting that Jason chose Charleston for our anniversary trip so he could do this whole day. I couldn’t be happier (or luckier) to be his wife. ā¤ļø

Recap of Day 4 in Charleston! Scroll to the end f Recap of Day 4 in Charleston!

Scroll to the end for the Pineapple Fountain! It was finally on today.

We started our day with a carriage ride tour of The Battery and the homes there (see our guide Leo 🐓). I highly highly recommend doing a carriage tour because there’s SO much history here, both Revolutionary War history and Civil War history and it’s cool to learn about it. We went on the first tour at 9am and it was perfect because there wasn’t a ton of traffic and it wasn’t too hot yet. It was also the cheapest time!

Next, we decided to tour one of the homes we saw on the carriage tour, the Edmonston-Alston house which is along The Battery. Beautiful house and a cool tour that isn’t too expensive. The view from the 2nd floor piazza and the breeze were delightful after sweating outside. The house also had AC. We haven’t been anywhere without AC - thank goodness.

We spent the rest of the day hitting more galleries and going back to a few favorites. My favorite gallery was Anglin Smith!

We had dinner at Poogan’s Smokehouse. It was pretty good, but not as good as Poogan’s Porch, which has remained our favorite restaurant here.
