The White Button Down: 3 Ways to Wear It

The white button down. It’s one of those classic pieces that you should have in your closet, but it’s generally a toss-up as to whether or not you do. I have a few variations of the classic piece in my closet, but my favorite is probably this one from J.Crew. It’s a boy-fit button down so it’s tailored but not as form-fitting as most button down shirts, so it can easily be worn dressed up or down.

I decided to style it 3 different ways: alone, with a cashmere sweater, and for work with a statement coat. I hope that you see how simple it is to pull off this piece and why you need one! It easily elevates an outfit. You can even think of it the way you would a white t-shirt; that’s how versatile it is!

First, I styled it with this leopard dot cashmere sweater from J.Crew. This is a look I’ve seen my Mom wear many times over the years, and I just love how classic it is. It’s one of those outfits that never goes out of style. I added my favorite pair of suede booties seen in this post, my favorite crossbody bag seen here, here, and here, a layered necklace, a velvet hair bow, and my favorite new sunglasses.

Outfit #1 Details: White Button-Down // Cashmere Sweater (out of stock) // Layered Necklace // Velvet Hair Bow // Sunglasses // Crossbody Bag // High-Waisted Denim // Suede Booties

For my second look, I chose to style the button-down on its own with a pair of high-waisted denim, pointy-toe flats, my favorite satchel, the same layered necklace, and a bow barrette (can you tell I love bow hair accessories?). I love the simplicity of the white button-down with a pair of skinny jeans and flats. It’s such an easy outfit to just throw on and go but still be elevated yet effortless.

Kate’s Styling Tips:

This look would be just as cute if you tucked in the shirt to show off your waist. For the shorter gals, I would actually recommend tucking your shirt in to make you look taller and make your legs look longer! I’m almost 5’8 and mostly legs already, so I opted to leave my shirt untucked.

Outfit #2 Details: White Button-Down // High-Waisted Denim // Layered Necklace // Flats // Bow Barrette (now only $8!) // Kate Spade Bag (old)

For my third and final look, I decided to do a work look in case we’re ever in the office again! You can just as easily pair it with some flats in place of the heels and wear this outfit to dinner or the mall.

I chose to go simple again, with the statement coat really being the “hero” piece here – everything else is simply a compliment. The colors in the coat are black, white, and a rust/burgundy color. So, I paired it with my white button-down, black skinny pants, black ankle-strap heels, and a burgundy headband. Very simple, and yet very chic! Proof that a good outfit doesn’t have to be complicated.

Outfit #3 Details: White Button-Down // Black Pants (old) similar here // Coat (old) similar here // Layered Necklace // Headband (old) // “K” Earrings // Huggie Hoops // Ankle-Strap Heels (old)

šŸ‚IT’S OFFICIALLY FALLšŸ‚ Throwback to last šŸ‚IT’S OFFICIALLY FALLšŸ‚

Throwback to last year’s fall colors. I can’t wait to see them again this year! The morning temps are finally in the 40s and it’s giving me LIFE. Highly recommend a nice morning walk to get your day started.

Lower temps means that we finally get to bring out the fall fashion!! I’ve been stuck in such a fashion rut because quite frankly, summer fashion is blah. I said what I said. šŸ˜‰
✨WHAT MY HUSBAND AND I WORE TO A SUMMER WEDDING✨

Was the outfit matching intentional? Not really haha. I found this light blue dress and knew I would wear it to the wedding and then when it came time to figure out what Jason would wear, I thought his only linen suit (which happens to be light blue) would be perfect. So, we ended up matching.

The dress code for this wedding was semi-formal so we were more dressed up, but if I’m being honest I typically dress up more for weddings anyway. I think it’s more respectful to the bride and groom to err on the side of more dressy vs less dressy.

OUTFIT DETAILS:

On Kate:
• Dress is from @anntaylor
• Shoes (old) and clutch (sold out) are from Ann Taylor

On Jason:
• Suit, tie, and pocket square (all old) are from @bananarepublic
• Shirt is from @combatgent
• Shoes are too old to mention

Recap of Day 5 in Charleston: Our 5th Anniversary Recap of Day 5 in Charleston: Our 5th Anniversary ā¤ļø

The Notebook is one of my favorite movies of all time. Little did I know (though maybe it should’ve been obvious) that the movie was filmed in Charleston, South Carolina.

Fortunately for me, Jason knew. 🄺

He planned our whole day around different filming locations of The Notebook, which is what you’ll see in the photos. When I say that my husband is the most thoughtful man I’ve ever met, I mean it, and this is a perfect demonstration of that.

• Photo 1: The Avenue of Oaks at Boone Hall Plantation
• Photo 2: The main house at Boone Hall, which also served as the exterior of Allie’s home.
• Photo 3: The nature tour of the plantation.
• Photo 4: Cypress Gardens, which is where the lake scene was filmed.
• Video 5: Jason wore a white shirt because Noah wore a white shirt for this scene in the movie. 🄺 The bridge from the movie is behind him!
• Photo 6: Jeni’s Ice Cream, also from the movie!
• Photo 7: The American Theater, filming location for Noah and Allie’s first date!
• Photo 8: College of Charleston, which served as the exterior for Allie’s college.
• Photo 9: We had dinner at Husk (not Notebook related but the exterior reminds me of the movie!). It was delicious and a must-try if you’re ever in Charleston.
• Photo 10: The exterior of our wedding venue. When I saw it, it immediately reminded me of The Notebook and I knew we had to get married there! So as you can see, I really love this movie ā¤ļø

It’s also worth noting that Jason chose Charleston for our anniversary trip so he could do this whole day. I couldn’t be happier (or luckier) to be his wife. ā¤ļø

Recap of Day 4 in Charleston! Scroll to the end f Recap of Day 4 in Charleston!

Scroll to the end for the Pineapple Fountain! It was finally on today.

We started our day with a carriage ride tour of The Battery and the homes there (see our guide Leo 🐓). I highly highly recommend doing a carriage tour because there’s SO much history here, both Revolutionary War history and Civil War history and it’s cool to learn about it. We went on the first tour at 9am and it was perfect because there wasn’t a ton of traffic and it wasn’t too hot yet. It was also the cheapest time!

Next, we decided to tour one of the homes we saw on the carriage tour, the Edmonston-Alston house which is along The Battery. Beautiful house and a cool tour that isn’t too expensive. The view from the 2nd floor piazza and the breeze were delightful after sweating outside. The house also had AC. We haven’t been anywhere without AC - thank goodness.

We spent the rest of the day hitting more galleries and going back to a few favorites. My favorite gallery was Anglin Smith!

We had dinner at Poogan’s Smokehouse. It was pretty good, but not as good as Poogan’s Porch, which has remained our favorite restaurant here.
